About me
Hello!
Welcome to the Part-Time Baker!
My name is Beth. I am a full time student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and a part-time baker!
I've been interested in baking since I was a little girl. My mum is a great cook but not a huge dessert person so if I wanted desserts of any kind, I would have to make them myself. One of my first memories was making animal-shaped coloured sugar cookies which I thought were masterpieces at the time.
Baking was always a hobby of mine and making cupcakes and cakes for my family and friends' birthdays was where I really started discovering my passion and love for it. Through my upper years of high school, baking was my stress release and escape from school. Days when I had exams the next day, it wouldn't be unusual for me to be in the kitchen making cookies or cakes in the middle of the night while studying to calm my nerves.
When I graduated high school, I decided to go to university to pursue an Arts degree and am currently in 3rd year studying Sociology. In first year, living in a university dorm room without a kitchen, I turned to reading baking blogs to get my baking fix. Through this, I expanded my baking repertoire and pushed me to bake something outside of my comfort zone (aka something other than cake).
Last year, I became frustrated with University and became unsure about what I wanted to do with an Arts degree so I started seriously looking into baking schools in my area. I found one that fit into my summer vacation from university, went for an interview and the next thing I know, I was graduating as a trained pastry chef. It had always been a fantasy of mine and I still cannot believe that it's a reality. It was one of the best summer experiences of my life; I learned so much and it made me more passionate for baking than ever!
I love everything to do with baking and pastries and I hope you enjoy my blog and recipes! Expect baking inspiration, bakery reviews and lots of different recipes that I'm testing out! :)
